Dear Parents and Guardians,
We just completed our SCMS “Walk the Creek.” We were glad to have students back in the building, their energy and excitement created a nice buzz in our halls. It was a great day for our students and staff to run their schedules and get to know each other. In preparation for Monday, I would like to review some important information to start school off on the right note.
Student Arrival and Dismissal
Please be patient with the parent drop off and pick up process, it will move very slow for the first week of school. Please give yourself some extra time before and after school to drop off and pick up your student. Traditionally, by the second week, the process runs much smoother.
Student drop off in the morning will be in the SCMS courtyard (behind the school). Parent pick up in the afternoon will be on the south side of the building behind the portables. A traffic map for parent pick up can be found at http://scms.lovejoyisd.net/Profile.cfm?ProfileID=6169 .
When students arrive on campus on Monday, they will report to the following locations to pick up an updated class schedule:
6th Grade—Cafeteria
7th Grade—Auxiliary Gym
8th Grade—Main Gym
Buses will run routes according to the regular school year schedule. Busing information can be found at http://www.lovejoyisd.net/MP.cfm?P=2026&. Lockers at SCMS
Students will receive their lockers during 4th period on Monday. All 6th and 7th grade students will be issued a locker at SCMS. For this year, we are offering our 8th grade students the option of having an academic locker at SCMS. Over the past two years, we have had a high percentage of our 8th grade students that were issued a locker but chose not to use them. Since a high percentage of our 8th grade students are issued a locker through extracurricular activities (athletics, band, and/or orchestra), we are giving them the option of having an additional academic locker.
SCMS School Supply Pick Up
If you pre-ordered school supplies and were unable to pick them up during the assigned pick up dates, these supplies are now located in your student's 8th period classroom.
If you pre-ordered a planner and/or t-shirt, these items will be available in the school store for pick-up both before and after school, and during the lunch period. The store will be open Monday through Friday during the first week of school.
Parent Sign In at SCMS
Sloan Creek Middle School has updated our visitor sign-in system. The updated system is called Positive Proof Intercept. Positive Proof is the same system we have used in the past to track visitors, students, volunteers, and staff but now the system requires the use of a state-issued ID. Positive Proof Intercept enhances school security by reading visitor drivers’ licenses, comparing information to a sex offender database, alerting campus administrators if a match is found, then (assuming no match was made) printing a visitor badge that includes a photo. The system was piloted at Lovejoy High School this past school year and over the summer all campuses have been updated. The overall goal of this system is to increase the safety of our schools.
Acknowledgement Required
The LISD Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, and Technology Acceptable Use Policy have all been updated on the LISD website. We ask that all parents follow the attach directions to complete their electronic acknowledgement.
Sloan Creek Middle School Chess
We have a very strong Chess program at SCMS. If your son or daughter is interested in participating in our chess program, please complete the application. Student Web Access to Power School
Student's access to PowerSchool has changed. Students will now need to log on using the following instructions.
The student's user name is:
Lastname_Firstname (capitalize the first letter of the last name and the first letter of the first name)
Example: Last_First
The student's password is their first initial of their first name, their first initial of their last name, and the last for digits of their social security number. The initials must be capitalized.
Example: FL1234
